Baker, Christina Mary

MRS. CHRISTINA A WICK BAKER DEAD. Mrs. Christina Mary Baker, who for the past few years has made her home with daughter, Mrs. C. E. Pierce, of Marion, died at her home Satruday, April 7th at the age of 33 years, 6 months the and 27 days.

She was born September 11, 1839 in Hauderoda, Prussia, Germany. She came to the United States with her parents in 1852, and located in Pruchia, Pike county, Ohio. On April 21, 1861, she was united in marriage to Frederick Baker and to this union fourteen chidren were born of whom ten children and husband preceded her to rest. She leaves to mourn her, one son, I. A. Baker, of Wonsevu; and three daughters, Mrs. Tena Harness of Burns, Kansas; Mrs. Minnie Hess of Chillicoth, Ohio; and Mrs. Elizabeth Pierce, of Marion, Kansas; two brothers, Levi Awick, of Peoria, Illinois; Charley Awick, of Jasper, Missouri; twenty-six grand children and twenty great grandchildren besides a host of friends. She was catechized and confirmed in the Lutheran church in childhood. She lived a consistent Christian life. She was a devoted companion and mother. Since the passing of her husband, March 27, 1919, she has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Eliza Pierce. Mrs. Baker was a pioneer of Chase county having lived on the farm now owned by her son, H. Baker. She has many friends who Mourn her departure.

She was laid to rest, April 8th, in the marion cemetery.
