Ballew, Mary Frances O'Brien
DEATH OF MRS GEORGE BALLEW
Mrs. George Ballew died suddenly at her home on the Clover Cliff Ranch southwest of Elmdale at 8:30 o'clock Thursday evening, November 8th, death being the result of a paralytic stroke.
Although Mrs. Bellew had not been well since last August yet her family had no warning before her death. Last Thursday she had been busy with her household duties and had retired at the usual time. Only she and her husband were at home at the time. The only warning Mr. Ballew had before she died was a short coughing spell. She expired without calling out or saying anything.
Mrs. Bellew's maiden name was Mary Frances O'Brien, She was born in Lody, Illinois, in 1873 and at the time of her death was 55 years of age. She was married to George Ballew in Florence in 1890, and Marion and Chase counties had since been the family home with the exception of two years. The family moved from Marion county to the Clover Cliff Ranch several years ago where Mr. Bellew and his sons have been engaged in farming.
Besides her husband Mrs. Ballew is survived by seven children, Mrs. Nanny Harpster, of Florence. Ed, Owen (Pat), Arthur, Jack, Dorothy and Bessie all of Elmdale, Jack, Dorothy and Bessie still live at home.
Besides these she leaves nine grandchildren and four brothers and sisters. Mrs. Ballew was one of a family of nine children.
The funeral services were held at the Christian church at Florence at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon, following a brief service which was held at the family home on the Clover Cliff Ranch at 1:30 o'clock. Rev. Bayer, pastor of tlhe Florence Christian Church, preached the sermon and interment was in the Florence cemetery.
The only death prior to this in the Ballew family was that of a son, Frankie, who died in 1900 at the age of two years in Wichita, Kansas.
Mrs. Ballew was a loving mother and wife and she cared for her large family as only a true mother can. She was a woman of much benevolence to all and her death will bring sorrow to a wide circle of friends and acquaintances outside her immediate family.
