Banks, T.J.

OBITUARY OF T. J. BANKS

The recent death of T. J. Banks at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hix at Eldorado, brings regret to the many early residents of this country who were intimately acquainted with him.

He was a man used to great responsibility and in whom all imposed implicit confidence. Mr. Banks at once became a friend and favorite with the men he met and was always ready to help those in need of his services.

He was born in Morefield, Ind. on Feb, 11th 1838. He grew to manhood in Indiana and was married at that place and at the outbreak of the Civil war enlisted and served nearly two years. He served his country faithfully until peace was gained

In later years he came to this country, locating near Matfield Green where he spent the greater part of his death. He became a member of the Christian Church a number of years ago.

He was married to Rachel Bray Sept. 8th, 1868 and to this union was born twelve children, six sons and six daughters, two of these with the wife preceeded him to the great beyond. He had six children by a former wife of which four are living; Mrs. Luvena Hill of Nowato, Okla; S. C. Banks of Chautauqua Springs, Kan.; T.E. Banks and Mrs. Mary Walden of Bergman, Ark.; Geo Banks of Opal, Colo.; Josie Hix of Eldorado

Kans.; John Banks of Collinsville, Okla.; Nealy Banks of Cottonwood Falls, Amanda Calvert and Nelle Bently of Strong City; Nettie Bocook and Lily, Robert and Sidney Banks all of Matfield Green.
