Barber, T B CONCERNING T. B. BARBER
The death of T. B. Barber which occurred at his home at Dunlap, Aug. 26th, has brought deep regret to his many Chase county friends and acquaintances. Mr. Barber was one of the early settlers of the east part of the county, coming here a number of years before the Civil war where he lived for many years.
Mr. Barber was born Feb. 9th, 1836 in Chestershire, England, and came to the United States when he was 10 years old with his parents. The Barbers settled first at Oskosh, Wis., but moved soon afterward to Chase county, Kansas. When the Civil war broke out Mr. Barber enlisted with the Eleventh Kansas Volunteers and was in Company C, an Emporia organization, with which he served through the war. At the beginning of the war he enlisted recruits, but later was sergeant major and veterinarian for his regiment.
Mr. Barber was married to Miss
Emma R. Swingley Nov. 16, 1869. In 1870 they moved to a farm near Dunlap, where he lived until his death. Two children were born, one Mrs. F. H. Thomas, who lives near Dunlap, and a son, Dale, who died in 1890. Mr. Barber was a member of the Congregational church.
