Baumgardner, Gene L

Gene L. Baumgardner, 82, died Dec. 20, 1997 at his, home. Mr. Baumgardner was employed by KPL for 31 years before he retired. He also was sexton for the Prairie Grove Cemetery for 10 yours. He was a private first class in Company B, 137th Regiment, 36th Division, US Army during World War II.

Gene L. Baumgardner the son of George William and Blanche Brandow Bowen Baumgardner, was born December 21, 1914, at Madison. He married Delores “Dee” Gibson on July 15, 1941. She died May 11, 1989. He married Lula M. Nelson on Oct 5, 1991.

Mr. Baumgardner was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Cottonwood Falls. He was a 60-year member of the American Legion, a 40-year member of the Lion Club and a member of the Cottonwood Falls Country Club. He also participated in the weekly Men's Prayer Breakfast in Strong City.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Barbara Chidester of Pawhuska, Okla., and Teresa Hanneman of. Nathrop, Colo.; two sisters, Pearl Kinsinger of Marion and Bonnie Pracht of Hughes Springs, Texas; 15 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

The memorial service was Tuesday in the Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home at Cottonwood Falls. Cremation had taken place. Inurnment was private. Memorial contributions to the Hand in Hand Hospice or the Cottonwood Falls Country Club may be sent to the funeral home.
