Abram Beals Dead.

All pioneer settlers of Chase county will learn with regret of the loss of one of their number in the death of Mr. Abram Beals on July 6, 1900, at his home in Emporia.

His remains were laid to rest in the Cottonwood cemetery four miles west of Emporia, services being conducted by Rev. Clarkson Henshaw of the Emporia Friends’ church in the presence of a yast audience.

Mr. Beals was born in East Tennessee in 1816. He married twice, his Second wife being Abigal Morgan of Tennessee. They came west, settling in the east part of this county in '60. He carried the first mail from Topeka to Plymouth.

In the service of his Master, he took the first effective part and established the first Sunday school in the county and organized the first Friends' church. His religion was of the seven-days-a-week kind. All suffering appealed to him.

Grasshopper year he was sent to Iowa by his church and county to solicit aid. He performed the duty well. He leaves a wife, three children and a host of friends to mourn.
