Berman, Joyce

Former Emporian Joyce Berman, 71, of Tonganoxie died Jan 11, 2002 at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Mrs Berman was an art teacher, special education teacher and school counselor who taught at Strong City, Kansas City, Kan., and the Piper School District.

Joyce Hoffman, the daughter of Martin and Inez Putnam Hoffman, was born Jan. 3, 1931, at Emporia. Mrs. Berman was a member of the United Church of Lawrence, where she was a member of Earth Peace and a former member of the board. She also was a member of Wolf Women at Lawrence.

She is survived by her husband, Raoul; three children, Phil Manners of Lawrence, Michelle Manners of Dallas and Bill Manners of Santa Rosa, Calif; a brother, Dale Hoffman of Kansas City; and five grandchildren.

The memorial service was held Sunday in the United Church at Lawrence. Memorial contributions to church building fund can be sent to the Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, 601 Indiana St., Lawrence, Kan. 66044.
