Blackburn, Mary Ruth Baker

Mary Ruth Blackburn, 94, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008, at West Park Long Term Care Center in Cody, Wyo.

She was born May 9, 1913, near Bazaar, the daughter of Seward H. and Josepha Tinkham Baker.

Her schooling began at Baker School, a rural school near her home. She attended Chase County High School in Cottonwood Falls, graduating in 1932.

She married Chester A. Blackburn, May 25, 1932, in Cottonwood Falls. He died in 1996.

After the war, the Blackburns moved to Wyoming, homesteading on the Heart Mountain Irrigation Project in 1947. She was a charter member of the Heart Mountain Extension Club.

She is survived by two daughters, Ruth Pfaff, Las Vegas, Nev. and Jane Chelberg, Powell, Wyo.; six grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Richard; two brothers, Edward and Arthur; and two sisters, Lois and Laura.

Graveside services and interment were Monday, Jan. 7, at Riverside Cemetery, Cody, Wyo. Those wishing may make memorial donations to the charity of their choice in Mary’s memory.

Arrangements were by Ballard Funeral Home in Cody, Wyo.
