Blankenship, Jerry Jay

Jerry Jay Blankenship, 53, formerly of Bazaar and Hutchinson, died Tuesday, July 11, 2006, at Select Specialty Hospital in Topeka.

Jerry Jay Blankenship, the son of Jerry Jay and Dorotha Lea Beedle Blankenship, was born Nov 5, 1952, at Emporia. He attended school in Chase County and graduated from Chase County High School in 1971. He had been disabled following a accident, while playing in the snow in 1969. He and his mother lived in Hutchinson and Dodge City before returning to Emporia in 2002.

He is survived by a sister, Leigh Ann Crofoot of Matfield Green; a brother, Flint Blankenship of Topeka; nieces, nephews and other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

The funeral service was Saturday, July 15, at the Brown-Bennett-Alexander Chapel in Cottonwood Falls. The Rev. Pat Ireland of the First Presbyterian Church of Cottonwood Falls conducted the service. Cremation took place following the service with inurnment at Prairie Grove Cemetery at a later date.

Memorial contributions to the Rock Springs 4-H Camp and/or the Chase County High School Alumni Association may be sent in care of the funeral home, 201 Cherry, Cottonwood Falls, KS.
