Blurton, William

The late Wm. Blurton was born in Green Co., Mo., March 11, 1868. He came to Kansas in 1887. In May of 1887, he and Lauri Taylor were united in marriage at Marion. Two Children were born to them, Maude, Mrs. N Odell, and Ira.

Beside his wife and two children, there are left to mourn, a mother, two brothers and a grandmother, almost 90 years of age.

Brother Blurton was converted at the age of 16 and united with a church in Missouri. Later as he studied the Word he became convinced of the scriptural foundation of the Baptists and two years after his conversion united himself with that denomination. He was zealous in defense of its doctrines and it was thought perhaps that he was sometimes over zealous. He was ready to help in the Lord's work to the extent of his ability and kind to any that might need a friend. He made mistakes but was willing to admit them. Perhaps few knew how much be mourned over some of his shortcomings.

For a long time he was very anxious for a Baptist church in Cottonwood Falls. On the human side it was due largely to his importunity that last spring the writer went to Cottonwood and commenced meetings which resulted in the organization of little band into the Cottonwood Falls Baptist church. His zeal did not seem to be that he might lead but that the work might go on and prosper. He has dropped out of life while yet a young man.

Let him be remembered for his kind words and deeds. In his last days much time was spent in reading the Word. Perhaps he had little thought that he would so soon know the realities of another world.
