Buckbee, William Wayne

William Wayne Buckbee, 77, died Monday, Jan. 26, 2004, at his home in Allen.

The son of Gabriel C. and M. Nellie Robinson Buckbee, he was born Aug. 17, 1926, at rural Cottonwood Falls. He married Annette J. Brasier on Jan. 18, 1952, at Americus. She survives.

A longtime rancher, he owned and operated a haying company for many years. From 1977 to 1992, he worked for the Kansas Turnpike Authority. He retired ten years ago. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a life member of American Legion Moreland-Edmunds-Clayton-Thompson Post 389 at Allen.

He is also survived by three sons, Harold Buckbee of Council Grove, Steve Buckbee of Americus and Sam Buckbee of Allen; a brother, Cleat Buckbee of Emporia; a sister, Mary Adam, of Junction City; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Three sisters, Levoda Butter, Wilma Guercio and Delena Grubb; and a grandson, Scot Cone, died earlier.

The funeral was Jan. 29. in the Roberts-Blue Barnett Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Derrek Belase of the Allen United Methodist Church conducted the service. Burial, with services conducted by the Fort Riley Army Honor Guard, was in Allen Cemetery at Allen.
