George Lincoln Bumgardner was born at Athen, Ill., June 18, 1854 and at the age of 21 he was married to Miss Maggie E. Vandorn of Jacksonville, Ill., and to this union were born, two sons, two daughters, one of whom is now living.

Soon after the death of his wife in 1887 he united with the Christian Church of Monmouth, Ill. Later he united with the Methodist Church. He was a faithful worker, preaching the Gospel. At the age of 35 he came to Kansas, where he was united in marriage to Eliza Jane Dean, on May 20th, 1889.

To this union nine children were born, two dying in infancy. He was a faithful husband and a kind and loving father. Death claimed him on Friday, March 4th, 1921 at Cottonwood Falls, Kansas.

He leaves to mourn his loss, a loving wife – Mrs. G L Bumgardner, and eight children, Pearl, Teddy and Dean at home, Coila Mullen, of San Francisco, California; George W Bumgardner of Cottonwood Falls; Alen R Bumgardner, of Gridley, Kansas, Linnie L. Cole, West New Jersey and Mrs Margaret J Peek, of Cottonwood Falls, Kansas.

Mr. Bumgardner had been engaged in mechanical work and blacksmithing all of his life. At the age of 16 years, he entered the plow shops at De Katur, Ill., where he worked for many years learning the trade. Later he went to the plow factories of Monmouth, Ill., where he worked for about fourteen years.

Mr. Bumgardner and family came to Kansas about thirty-two years ago and this state had since been his home. He was an excellent mechanic and a good workman, and he lived a long and useful life.

G L Bumgardner Dead

Mr G L Bumgardner who has been ill at his home in the southeast part of this city for the past week or ten days, died early this Friday morning. For a couple of weeks, Mr Bumgardner had been feeling badly. Last Sunday he contracted pneumonia and since that time his condition has been critical.

The funeral services will be held Sunday, March 6th, at the Methodist Church at 2:30 and interment will be made in the Prairie Grove cemetery.

Telegrams were sent this morning to several of Mr and Mrs Bumgardner’s children who live in other states notifying them of their father’s death. Mr. Bumgardner and family moved to this city last year from Gridley when he and his son George, formed a partnership in the blacksmithing business here. He was a workman of unusual ability. While his residence in this city has been comparatively short yet he and his family have made many friends and acquaintenances and his death brings deep regret to all.
