Fumes Fatal to Ted Bumgardner. When Familiar Cottonwood Falls Man was not seen for a few days, investigation was started.

Theodore R, “Ted" Bumgardner was found dead in his trailer Tuesday morning, the victim of accidental asphyxiation. The 57 year old Cottonwood Falls bachelor lived alone. He had a small dog which also perished in the trailer.

Relatives became apprehensive after Mr. Bumgardner had not been down town as was his daily custom. The tragedy was discovered shortly after 9 o’clock by Ed Boles, local businessman, who had been asked to check on him. Mr. Boles immediately notified authorities. Mr. Bumgardner's body was in his bed and the dog was lying on the floor near-by, Sheriff Francis Towle reported.

He said two small gas stoves were burning and it was very warm inside the trailer. It is believed Mr. Bumgardner’s death resulted from carbon monoxide fumes and occurred sometime after he retired Saturday night. He was last seen going towards his home late Saturday afternoon.

Around the trailer, only small tracks of children were visible in the snow that fell Sunday night. There was no evidence of foul play.

Graveside services were held this Wednesday afternoon at Prairie Grove Cemetery where burial made. The Rev JohnThornberry of the Methodist church was in charge. Arrangements were in the charge of the Croy Funeral Home.

Mr. Bumgardner was born October 24, 1902 in Monmouth, Ill., and died March 15, 1958. He was the son of the late George Lincoln and Eliza Jane Bumgardner. The family moved to Cottonwood Falls in 1920 which had since been his home with the exception of a short time spent in California. For some time, Mr. Bumgardner operated a trash disposal business in Cottonwood Falls.

Surviving hlm are two brothers, Dean and Al Bumgardner, Eureka; three sisters, Mrs. Linnie Cole, Miami, Fla., Mrs Pearl Bell, and Mrs Margaret Miller, Bell, Calif.; many nieces and nephews. three of whom are Gene Baumgardner Cottonwood Falls, Glenn Baumgardner, Elmdale; and Mrs Junior Bucher, Eureka.
