Campbell, Anna R Flott
Mrs. J. F. Campbell, a resident of this county for more than 50 years, died early Friday morning at her home in Elmdale after a lingering sickness.
The funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the home and interment was in the Elmdale cemetery. Rev. H. A. Fintel of Elmdale was in charge of the services. Miss Margaret Macalpine played two piano selections. The pall-bearers were L. M. Umberger, T. R. Wells, Fred Smethers, L. J. Frey, W. C. Root and Ed Thurston.
She is survived by her husband, J. F. Campbell of Elmdale; two daughters, Miss Grace Campbell of Elmdale and Mrs. James McNee of Cottonwood Falls; three sons, Court L. Campbell of Emporia, Floyd Campbell of Topeka and Ray Campbell of Wichita. She is also survived by a sister in Illinois.
Anna R. Flott was born near Gettysburg, Pa., on June 23, 1850, and died at her home in Elmdale, November 30, 1928. At the age of four years she went with her parents to Kansas in 1876. She was educated in the public schools and later attended St. Marys College for young women at Knoxville, Illinois. While at college she united with the Presbyterian church.
On February 26, 1878, about two years after she came to Kansas, she was married to John F. Campbell of Elmdale. Most of her married life was spent at the Campbell home on Middle Creek, but in 1918 she moved with her husband to their present home in Elmdale.
Although Mrs. Campbell was of a very quiet and retiring nature, she shared with her husband in the making of a home that was known and frequently referred to as one of the most hospitable of the county in which she lived. She was one of the fine characters who did her full share in the pioneering days, while the demands for duty and self-sacrifice were great. She was patient, lovable and kind to all, and it was with these virtues that she reared her children and endeared herself to all who knew her.
