Capwell, Phoebe A
MRS. CAPWELL DEAD
Mrs. Phoebe Capwell, who has been sick for several months died at her home in this city, Monday morning. A few days before her death she suffered a stroke of paralysis from which she never rallied.
Mrs. Capwell came to Kansas with her husband in 1873, and has made Cottonwood Falls her home ever since. Her son, George Capwell, who survives her, was born the same year they came to Cottonwood Falls.
Mr. Capwell, for many years was the gardner for those people of the town who did not grow their own garden. They lived at the north limits of Cottonwood Falls just west of the electric light plant which was an ideal garden farm.
Mrs. Capwell's funeral is being held this afternoon at two-thirty at the Capwell home, and burial will be
in Prairie Grove cemetery.
MRS. PHOEBE A. CAPWELL
Mrs. Phoebe A. Capwell was born in Coventry, Rhode Island, in 1834. She died in Cottonwood Falls, Kansas, April 23rd, 1923. In 1854, she was married to Mr. James B. Capwell and to this union was born three children, Alice Adella, who died at the age of twenty, James Milton, who died at the age of five and George E. Capwell who survives her.
She was of a family of eleven children of whom only two are living, Mrs. Sarah E. Windsor of Rhode Island, and Mrs. W. L. Wood of this city. In her early life she joined the Congregational church and always lived a consistent Christian life.
She and her husband moved to Chase county in 1873, when there were few people here and always after made this her home. Her husband died at their home here in 1912. Mrs. Capwell's funeral was held at the Capwell home and burial was beside her husband in Prairie Grove cemetery.
