Chandler, Earl Leland Little Chandler Baby Burned
One of the saddest accidents which it has been our lot to record is, the sad death of little Earl Leland Chandler, one year and eight month old, second son of Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Chandler, who recently moved to Topeka from Bazaar.
Mrs. Chandler was cleaning house Monday, Oct. 4th and had burned some papers she had taken from under the carpet. She bad put out the fire as she supposed and had gone back to her work. The children had begun raklng in the embers with sticks and gathered up papers in the yard and put them over where the fire had heen. All at once it blazed up and caught the little fellow's dress. Mrs. Chandler heard a piercing scream and rushing to the back yard. She was horrified to see little Earl running toward her, his clothes a mass of flames. She gathered him in her lap and succeeded in smothering the fire but not until she was herself so seriously burned tbat it is feared she may lose her limbs.
The accident occurred about 5 o'clock Monday even'ng and the little fellow lived until 4 o'clock Tuesday morning when he died.
The funeral was held at Euclid Ave., Methodist church at 9 o'clock Wednesday morning and was conducted by Rev. Culpepper. The little white coffin was completely covered by a bank of flowers. They brought the body on No. 6 Wednesday and it was laid to rest in the Chandler lot in the Bazaar cemetery
Mrs. Chandler's mother, Mrs. M. J. Moon, of Marion and her brother, Claire Moon, of Lawrence, and Rev. Culpepper of Topeka accompanied the family here and Rev. Culpepper had charge of the services at the grave.
Mr. and Mrs. Chandler have the sympathy of all their friends in Chase county in their bereavment.
