Chestnut, Hattie
Burns Prove Fatal
Mrs.. Hattie Chestnut, who with her 12 year old daughter, Mary, was burned in the Chestnut home, south of Lansing, last Wednesday, died at 1 o'clock yesterday afternoon. The child succumbed to her injuries, the day of the accident.
Although frightfully burned, it for a time was thought Mrs. Chest-
nut could recover, although had she done so, she would have been badly
scarred. Friday night, however she grew much worse and sank gradually until death relieved her sufferings.
Last Wednesday afternoon little Mary's dress ignited from a kitchen stove. Hearing her screams, Mrs. Chestnut, who was in the rear yard. rushed to her aid. The
child was a mass of flames, which her. mother tried to smother with her own gown. Her clothing. to, took fire and burned off before help could be summoned,
