Christie, Josephine Alice

Josephine Alice Christie, 88, of Emporia died Monday, Dec. 29, 2003, at the Vintage Manor. Mrs. Christie was a secretary for Frank Johnson Insurance and Real Estate before she retired.

The daughter of Joseph and Hattie Alma Adkins, she was born Dec. 20, 1915, in Chase County. She married Harold Everett Caruthers on Aug. 27, 1934, in Eureka. He died Oct. 21, 1970. She married John Christie on Aug. 22, 1978, in Wichita. He died in 2000.

Mrs. Christie was a member of the First Friends Church and the Cottonwood Falls Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by a daughter, Dona Jackson of New Strawn; a son, Gary Caruthers of Overland Park; a sister, Anna Kern of Emporia; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and nine great-greatgrandchildren. Six brothers; one sister; and a grandson, Michael Dean Jackson, died earlier.

The funeral was Jan. 3, 2004, in Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Frank Borozinski of the New Strawn Community Church conducted the service. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery at Toledo. Memorial contributions to Hand in Hand Hospice may be sent in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 175, Emporia, KS 66801.
