Clarke, John Henry

John Henry Clarke died at his late residence in this city, on Sunday, April 20, 1894, after an illness of many weeks, aged 78 years, 11 months, and 12 days.

The deceased was born in Montgomery county, Tennessee, May 17, 1815; moved to Logan county, Ills., 1861, and to Cottonwood Falls, Kan., in 1884.

He was married to Miss Mary L. Boyd in 1847, by whom he had six children, two of whom, with his bereaved widow, survive him.

His living children are Mrs. Harry Burcham and W. W. Clarke, of this city. The deceased was converted an early age, was a licensed exhorter and died a consistent member of the M. E. church. The old gentleman was nearly blind and his tall form was a familiar figure on our streets previous to his last illness. He was an honest man, a good Christian and citizen, and his death is mourned by all who knew him. The funeral services were held at the M. E. church, Tuesday afternoon.
