Clemens, Melissa Ellen

Elmdale Resident Passes On

Mrs. D. E. Clemens Had Been in Failing Health for a Long Time.

Mrs. D. E. Clemens of Elmdale died Monday at 9:15 o’clock at her home. She had been in failing health for some time. The funeral services were held at 2:30 o’clock Wednesday afternoon at the Methodist church in Elmdale, the Rev. H. A. Fintel officiating. Interment was in the Elmdale cemetery.

She is survived by her husband D. E. Clemens, who recently retired as operator at the Neva station after a long period of years by one daughter, Mrs. R. E. Miller of Kansas City, Kans., a granddaughter, Lena Lynch, who has cared for her grandmother in Elmdale, four brothers in Illinois, one brother at Winfield, and two sisters in Illinois.

Melissa Ellen Clemens was born July 5, 1860, and departed this life January 14, 1929, at 9:15 p.m.

At an early age Mrs. Clemens united with the Methodist Episcopal church and took great delight in the culture of the church. As she grew older she assumed more of the responsibilities of the church and became very efficient as a steward.

This important work for many years meant much to the church. To her it was the natural result of a well trained Christian. This service was dedicated to the Lord and faithfully performed until affliction compelled her to remain at home. For sixteen years this devoted wife and mother has suffered patiently and at last has been called home. Her going was a peaceful departure. Her face that had expressed painful suffering for years now expresses rest, quietness, and joy.

She can say with St. Paul, “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my courses, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love His appearing.” 2 Tim. 4:7-8.
