Coate, Kittie Ethel

Word was received here this week of the death Kittie Coate, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. Coate, who recently moved from Saffordville to Newkirk, Okla., and their many friends in this county will be shocked to hear of the sudden death of Miss Kittie.

Kittie Ethel Coate was born Feb. 7, 1894 and died May 24, 1911, age 17 years, 3 months and 17 days.

Kittie was born near Council Grove, Morris County, Kansas, where she lived till the age of ten years, then with her parents she moved to Chase County, Kansas, locating near Saffordville where the family lived until Feb. 9, 1911, when they moved to Newkirk, Okla. It was there in the new home after a short illness of only ten days that the grim hand of death claimed her. All that loving hands could do was done to save her, but God knew best, for he took her in his own keeping.

The sorrowing parents, brothers and sisters have the heart-felt sympathy of all for little Kittie was the youngest of twelve children and the first and only one of the happy family that God has taken home.

Her death was a great shock to her relatives and friends, her condition was not thought serious. Every one thought she had taken a turn for the better. All day Wednesday she appeared to be so much better, and about 8 o’clock P. M. she sank into a peaceful slumber from which she never awoke, and at …:25 P. M. she passed away without a struggle and with a Heavenly smile on her face.

She had the measles and this together with nervous prostration and a weak heart caused her death. She leaves a father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. A. Coate, Ellis, Pete, Joby, Earl, Stella, Hazel and Clyde Coate, all of Newkirk, Okla., and Mrs. Ida Cress of Council Grove, Harry Coate of Saffordville, and Charles Coate of Helena, Montana, who was the only one that was unable to be present. Besides the sisters and brothers that attended the funeral were: Henry, Nellie and Myrtle Plummer of Saffordville, H. A. Hunter of Crowell, Texas, Omer Cress, a nephew of Gotebo, and Mr. and Mrs. Scott Koontz, cousins from Emporia.

Funeral services were held at the home conducted by Rev. D. L. Ammons on Friday, May the 26th, at 2 o’clock, and interment made in the Newkirk Cemetery. Many were the beautiful flower offerings.
