Coder, Andrew Jackson

A. J. Coder Die. Andrew Jackson Coder, 78, died at 2:30 o'clock Monday morning at his home the Toledo neighborhood, north ofSaffordville. He was a retired preacher.

Funeral services were at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Toledo church. Interment was in Toledo cemetery.

Andrew Jackson Coder was born in Fulton County, Ohio, in the year 1850. He was married to Clarissa A. Ramp, November 1, 1874. To them were born nine children, four boys and five girls.

In 1876 the emigrated to Kansas and were among the earliest settlers in Pawnee County. The next year they went east on a visit. They returned to Kansas in 1879 where they settled on 160 acres of school land in Barton County.

He began preaching in 1880 in the United Brethren church and from that time until they removed to Toledo six years ago Mr. Coder continued in the ministry, engaging in farming and other industries at the same time.

In 1923 Mr. and Mrs. Coder retired from the ministry and removed to the little place at Toledo which remained theirs and to which they returned a short time before his deathwhich occurred Sunday morning May 5, 1929. He remained active up to the time of his death and for three years was in charge of a cream station at Saffordville.

Of the immediate family, three girls and one boy have preceded Mr. Coder in death. There remain to miss him, hiswidow and Andrew F. Coder of St. Joseph, Mo., W. C. Coder of Saffordville, B. I. Coder of Rago, Kans. Mrs. Rosie Boothe of Hill City, Kans., Mrs. Myrtle Wray of Hastings, Neb.; and eighteen grandchildren; also two brothers, D. H. Coder of Muscotah, Kans., and J. M. Coder of St. Joseph; and four sisters, Mrs. Josie Crept of St. Joseph, Mrs. Mary Stansbarger of Horton, Kans., Mrs. Emmy Fairchilds of Kansas City; Mo., and Mrs. Cornelia Wathen of Denver, Colo.

Mr. Coder was a clean, upright, indusrtious man. He fulfilled the Scriptural injunction: Be diligent in business, fervent in spirit serv¬ng the Lord. Both in business and in the ministry he was faithful. He had a number of gracious revivals during his ministry and there will be many stars in his crown. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon from the Toledo church, Rev. A. H. Christensen of Saffordville in charge.
