Coe, James A.

Word was received at noon Saturday that James A. Coe, a former resident of this county, had been killed in an automobile accident near his home at Ceres, Calif. As near as can be determined the car ran off a bridge into a stream sometime Friday night. The body was found Saturday morning. Mr. Coe's skull was crushed and it is believed he was dead before he fell into the water.

Mr. Coe is a brother of Fred Coe and Mrs. John Bell of Cottonwood Falls and C. A. Coe of Lawrence. About 35 years ago he was foreman on the Lantry Brothers Ranch at the northwest edge of Strong City. Later he leased the pastures on which Carl Palmer now has the leases, and still later he ran a livery stable in Cottonwood Falls. Twenty years ago last January the family moved to California and has lived there since.

Mr. Coe is survived by his widow, the former Laura Austin, sister of W. W. and Fred Austin of Cottonwood Falls, and by six children: Mrs. Lloyd Enochs, Taft, Calif., and Dorothy, Herbert, Kenneth, Paul and James of Ceres, Calif.

No details of the funeral arrangements had been heard Tuesday afternoon by relatives in Cottonwood Falls.
