Collett, George
George Collett, aged 81 years, 1 month, and 27 days, died at his late residence, three miles east of this city, on Sunday, Jun 05 1892.
He had been gradually failing the last few years
and about two weeks ago his symptoms began to cause alarm. His two sons, george of Garnet, and Henry, of this county, were sent for. A change for the better took place and George returned to his home, but he was again summoned and arrived last Saturday.
The deceased's long residence in this county gave him an extensive acquaintance. He was the soul of honor and had the love and respect of every one.
George Collett was born in Montrow, London, England, Apr 09 1811, and married in 1833. He landed at Quebec, Canada, in 1848 and went to New York City the same year. In 1855 he moved to Ogle county, Illinois, and in Jun, 1860, he settled on Middle creek, Chase County, Kansas, whee his first wife died May, 22, 1865.
Seven years after the death of his first wife he married Mrs. Catherine Page, sister of the then Mrs. Robert Cuthbert, with whom he lived happily until his death.
Funeral services were held at the residence on Tuesday, Rev. Isaac Hill officiating, after which the body was buried in Prairie Grove cemetery.
The deceased leaves a widow and two sons who have the sympathy of an extensive circle of friends and acquaintenances.
