Cook, Clifford J

Clifford J. Cook, 80, died Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2005, at Colmery O'Neil Veterans' Administration Medical Center in Topeka.

Clifford, the son of Jerry F. and Clara E. Wagner Cook, was born July 3, 1925, in Emporia. He served in the U.S. Army. He married Violet "Elreene" Potter on April 15, 1956, at Miami, Okla. She died Sept. 13, 2002.

He worked as a vending technician before retirement. He was a member of the Cottonwood Falls United Methodist Church, a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Lowry-Funston Post 1980 and the American Legion Ball-McColm Post 5.

He is survived by five sons, Larry Dean Cook of Haysville, Jerry Gonzales of Canton, Mich., Jeff Cook of Joaquin, Texas, Kevin Cook of Marietta, Okla. and Tommy Cook of Emporia; one daughter, Patricia Rhoads of Emporia; two brothers, Bill Cook and Don Cook of Emporia; three sisters, Mary L. Adkins, Claudean Cassida and Dorothy Fehr all of Emporia; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; four sons, Mark Cook, Randy Cook, Dale Cook and Clifford Cook; and one brother Jesse J Cook.

A Celebration of his life service was held Saturday, Aug. 6, 2005, at the Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home in Cottonwood Falls. Pastor Rick Smith of the First Baptist Church in Cottonwood Falls officiated. Military honors were conducted by the American Legion Post #4 and VFW Post #1980 at Prairie Grove Cemetery.
