Cooper, Virginia A

Virginia A. Cooper, 86, died suddenly at her home, in Strong City, on Friday, May 5, 2006. Cremation has taken place. A graveside celebration of life service will be held Saturday, May 13, 2006, at 11 a.m. at Bazaar Cemetery. The Rev. Melody Kimbrel of the United Methodist Church in Cottonwood Falls will officiate.

Virginia Mildred Cahoone, the daughter of Sidney and Anna Belle Riley Cahoone, was born April 4, 1920, at Cedar Point.

She married Leslie F. Cooper on Sept. 29, 1961, in Cottonwood Falls. She was a beautician and operated Virginia's Beauty Shop in Cottonwood Falls for 30 years. She and Les cared for older people in their home for years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Cottonwood Falls and of the Twin Cities Lions Club.

She is survived by her husband of the home; two sons, Vernon Starkey and Dale Starkey, both of Cottonwood Falls; a daughter, Linda Stubenhofer of Strong City; a brother, Don Cahoone of Little Rock, Ark; two sisters, Juanita Starkey of Cottonwood Falls and Laura Searcy of California; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two step sons, Michael Cooper of Lawrence and Donald Cooper of Des Moines, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Riley Cahoone and Sidney Cahoone.

The family will greet friends Friday, May 12, 2006, 6:30 until 7:30 p.m. at the Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home in Cottonwood Falls. Memorial contributions to the Chase County High School Alumni Scholarship Fund may be sent in care of the funeral home, 201 Cherry, Cottonwood Falls, KS 66845.
