Cooper, William "Bill" Joel

William "Bill" Cooper, 80, died Feb. 14, 2003, at home in rural Elmdale. A Military Graveside Service, conducted by Rev. Pat Ireland, First Presbyterian Church, U.S.A., of Cottonwood Falls and the -Fort Riley Honor Guard, was held Feb. 18, 2003, at Bazaar Cemetery, Bazaar.

William Joel Cooper, the son of Milburn "Dutch" and Bess Blackburn Cooper, was born Aug. 12 1922, at Bazaar. He lived all of his life in Chase County except the 31 months he served in the Marine Corp in World War 11, 19 of those months in the South. Pacific. He began farming in 1947, near the Diamond Creek area. He served on the Chase County A.S.C.S. Board, the Farm Bureau Board and the Federal Land Bank Board in Emporia.

He married Lois June Mushrush. They were divorced. He later married Myrtle McCabe on Dec. 31, 1965, at Council Grove. She died in 1993.

He is survived by three sons, Craig Cooper of Elmdale, David Cooper of Wichita, and Brian Cooper of Topeka; one step-daughter, Jane Johnson of Strong City; a companion of several years, Faith Hickox, of the home; six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Keith Cooper and Ivan Cooper; and one sis- ter Marian Ayers. Memorial contributions to the H. Dale Buck Animal Welfare or the Chase County All-Veterans Memorial may be sent in care of the Brown- Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home, 201 Cherry, Cottonwood Falls, Kan. 66845.
