Cozart, Harry

Harry Cozart, 90, died Monday, Jan. 23, 2006, at the Chase County Health and Rehabilitation Center, Cottonwood Falls.

Harry Thayne Cozart, 90, of rural Emporia died Jan. 23, 2006, at the Chase County Health and Rehabilitation Center in Cottonwood Falls.

Harry, the son of Will and Mary Lee Ballard Cozart, was born Jan. 6, 1926, in Protection. He married Ida Lavina Walker in May of 1941, in Blue Spings, Mo. He worked for Kelly's Dairy and Purina Mills, both in Kansas City. During World War II, he worked at the Bendix Corporation in Kansas City, building air-craft engines.

In 1945, and until his retirement in 1981, he farmed and raised livestock near Bronson and Moran. He earned the Kansas Banker's Conservation Award in both Bourbon and Allen counties.

He is survived by a son, Thayne Cozart of Emporia; two granddaughters; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife; and three sisters, Heloise Scott, Dorothy Edwards and Audrey Irvin.

Following cremation, a memorial service will be held Feb. 6, at the Senior Citizen's Center in Moran, at 2 p.m. The Rev. Jack Crone, Chanute, will direct the service. There will be no graveside service. Memorial contributions to the Mike Ahearn Scholarship Fund for KSU Athletics may be sent in care of the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, P.O. Box 175, Emporia, KS 66801.
