Crawford, Joseph L Sr

From the OBITUARY OF JOSEPH L. CRAWFORD SR. The long sickness of Jos. L. Crawford, of Clements, terminated last Wednesday evening, in the "long sleep that knows no waking here". Mr. Crawford was in the sixty-eighth year of his age, but until his last illness was as hale and vigorous as many men who wear a score less years. He was well and familiarly known in this and adjoining counties as Uncle Joe Crawford, having lived here more than thirty years.

Sterling honesty, kindness of heart, hatred of deceit and all hypocrisy, and zeal to be right were traits of character that distinguished him among his fellowman. Surrounded by members of his family and in full possession of all the faculties of his mind, after having bidden each one of them goodbye, the link which connects the soul and body was peacefully sundered.

The funeral sermon preached by Miss Brant of Hutchinson was one of unusual force and logic. The last rites were performed by the Odd Fellows societies, of which he was a faithful member since its organization at this place. Sympathy is extended to the wife and family, in their sorrow for the loss of a husband --a father, and "an honest man --the noblest work of God."
SCRIBULUS.

Strong City Derrick, Strong City, Kansas, November 23, 1893.
