Crouch, Sarah J. Turner
Mrs. John Crouch, mother of Mrs. Herman Hartig, died shortly after noon Wednesday, Jan. 21st., following a brief illness. It was expected the funeral would be held Friday afternoon, January 23rd. from the Methodist Church in this city after which interment will be made in Prairie Grove Cemetery.
Mrs. Crouch made her home with the Hartig family which had moved from Caholn Creek in the north part of the county to the farm of Dr. Jacob Hinden on Peyton Creek only a week or two ago. She became ill Wednesday morning but her condition did not seem to be serious until a few hours before her death.
Mrs. Crouch's maiden name was Sadie Turner. She was in her 74th. year, having passed her 73rd. birthday on January 3rd. She was born in Illinois but had lived in Chase county for almost fifty years.
It was in Chase county that she was married to John Crouch, the wedding taking place in 1886 at Saffordville and the Saffordville and Toledo neighborhoods were the family home for many years. Mr. Crouch was a former superintendent of the county farm. His death occured sixteen years ago.
Mrs. Crouch is survived by two children, Mrs. Herman Hartig of this county and Mrs. Osta Moore, of Wellington, Kansas. There are four children dead who are Herman, Loy, Belle and Lellan. Mrs. Crouch is also survived by two brothers, William Turner, of Saffordville and Milt Turner, of Oklahoma.
When a small girl, she became a member of the Methodist church and she remained true to her faith. She was a loving mother, kind and helpful neighbor, and was happiest when serving others. To her was to love her.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Glenna Hartig, with whom she lived, and Mrs. Osta Moore, of Wellington, Kansas; also three step-sons, Courtland C., of Emporia; William, of Cottonwood Falls; and James, of Portland, Oregon; and two brothers, C. N. Turner of Anadarko, Oklahoma; and W. G. Turner, of Saffordville. Also eight grandchildren to mourn her passing.
Mrs. Crouch departed from this life, January 21st., at the age of 72 years and 18 days.

Sarah J. Turner was born in the state of Indiana, in 1859. She came to Chase county in 1880, locating near Saffordville and the remainder of her life was spent in this county.
In 1885, she was married to John M. Crouch, who departed from this life March 4, 1915. To this union were born six children, three of whom, Herman, Lenna and Loy died in infancy. Another daughter, Mrs. Beth Passmore, died in Shawnee, Oklahoma, in 1928.

Funeral services for Mrs. John Crouch, who died at 1:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon of last week at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Herman Hartig, on Peyton Creek, were held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Methodist church in Cottonwood Falls. The Rev. J. A. Pratt of Elmdale conducted the services. Interment was in Prairie Grove cemetery.
Sarah J. Turner was born January 3, 1859, in Indiana. She came to Chase County in 1880 and has lived here since.
In 1882 she was married to John Crouch at Saffordville.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Herman Hartig of Strong City and Mrs. Osta Moore of Wellington; three stepsons, Courtland Crouch of Cottonwood Falls and James Crouch of Portland, Ore.; two brothers, William Turner of Saffordville and Milt Turner of Anadarko, Okla.
