Cuthbert, Robert

DEATH LOVES A SHINING MARK

The verification of the above quotation occurred last week in the death of our friend and neighbor, Robert Cuthbert.

The deceased was born in Yorkshire, England, May 15. 1828, and died in Cottonwood Falls, Kansas, December 20, 1895, of dropsy, aged 67 years, 7 months, and 5 days. He emigrated to America in November, 1851 and settled in New York state. He was converted in 1852 was married to Miss Anna Cove in 1853, moved to Michigan in 1855 and from there to the farm adjoining this townsite in 1867, where his wife died in 1888.

On Jan 5 1891, he was married to Mrs Mary A Gustin who with three brothers, Richard, of this county, George and John, and a sister, Hannah, all of Michigan survives to mourn his loss.

The funeral services was conducted by Rev. Lidzey, in the M.E. church, last Sunday morning in the presence of an immense congregation of sorrowing friends.

Robert Cuthbert was a man who during a residence of 30 years in this community had been that exceptional man--the Christian--whose life has been a continued exemplification of honesty, integrity, and religious zeal. His conscientious earnestness was never questioned and his gentle kindly nature always commanded respect.

No matter how bold the scoffer, he respected and believed in "Uncle" Robert. Faithful and true, his earthly life fitted him for that hereafter prepared for the people of God. While friends feel the painful sense of loss in the daily intercourse of life, with Christian faith they believe that he has entered into that joy he had so long hoped for and that the Savior he has so long loved has received him into the perfect joy of His presence.
