Gertrude Johnson Showalter Davis

Gertrude Showalter Davis, 98, of Cottonwood Falls, formerly of Hutchinson, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, at Chase County Health and Rehabilitation Center in Cottonwood Falls.

Funeral services were conducted by The Rev. John Ratzlaff and The Rev. Eldon Cox on Wednesday, Dec. 10, at the Cedar Point Community Church in Cedar Point. A graveside service was at the Fairlawn Cemetery in Hutchinson.

Gertrude Johnson, the daughter of William and Rosalie Kennedy Johnson, was born March 25, 1905, at Larned. She married Charles William Showalter on Dec. 23, 1922, at the Methodist Parsonage, in Larned. He died Jan. 15, 1953. She married Henry Davis on May 15, 1957. He died Oct. 23, 1965.

She was a long-time Sunday school teacher and church pianist at the First Christian Church and the Southwest Baptist Church, both in Hutchinson.

She is survived by daughters-in-law, Mary Showalter of Strong City and Dorothy Showalter of Hutchinson; a stepdaughter, Ruth Ann Tidwell of Tucson, Ariz.; five grandchildren; five great-grand- children; and two great- great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Donald Showalter and Lawrence Showalter; a great-great-granddaughter, Joni Gayle Showalter; and brothers, Orville Johnson and Merle Johnson.
