Dawson. Carl J
Carl J. Dawson, 78, died
Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003, at
Chase County Health and
Rehabilitation Center in
Cottonwood Falls. He was
buried Dec. 26 in Clements
Cemetery. The burial, with
military honors, was private.
Carl Junior Dawson was
born Sept. 18, 1925, to Carl
O. and Florence Martin
Dawson at the family home
in Clements. He was a
member of the fourth generation of the Dawson fam-
ily to live their entire lives
in Chase County.
Mr. Dawson was a
farmer and stockman and a
rural mail carrier for the
Cedar Point route of the
Cedar Point Post Office for
ten years. He retired on
July 31, 1998.
He was a member of the
Advance Masonic Lodge of
Florence and the Rural
Carriers Postal Union.
Mr. Dawson was a decorated combat veteran
whose honors included the
bronze star, received while
serving during World War
11. A member of the 87th
Division, 345th Infantry,
1st Battalion, he served in
the Battle of the Bulge.
Mr. Dawson is survived
by his wife, the former
Charlotte Thurston; they
married July 31, 1944, in
Hattiesburg, Miss.
He is also survived by
three sons, Kenneth Carl
Dawson of Cottonwood
Falls, Dennis Edward
Dawson of Cedar Point and
Steven Bruce Dawson of
Emporia; a daughter,
Claudia Joan Nilssen of
Overland Park; a sister,
Minnie Beth Park of
Cottonwood Falls; 11
grandchildren and 11
great-grandchildren.
A sister, Carol Anderson,
and a great-granddaughter
died earlier.
