Deering, Martin Thomas

Martin T. Deering, 97, died at the Caney Nursing Home in Caney, Saturday, April 9, 2005.

Martin Thomas Deering was born Feb. 10, 1908, at Clements, to Frank and Fannie Buffon Deering.

He married Blanche Holcomb on March 1, 1931, in Cottonwood Falls. He was a lifetime farmer and carpenter in Chase County. In 1999, he and his wife moved to assisted living at the Caney Guest Home Estates in Caney to be near their sons. Martin was a member of the Cottonwood Falls United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Blanche, of the home in Caney; two sons, Darryl Deering of Independence and Lanny Deering of Caney; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister, Daisy Odle; and three brothers, Walter, Clinton and George Deering.

Funeral services were April 12 in the Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Melody Kimbrel of Cottonwood Falls United Methodist Church officiating. Private interment followed in Prairie Grove Cemetery in Cottonwood Falls. Memorial contributions to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospital may be sent to the funeral home, 201 Cherry, Cottonwood Falls, KS 66845.
