Denton, Gordon T

Gordon T Denton, 78, died July 16, 2003, at Morris County Hospital, Council Grove. He was born Feb. 12, 1925, to John L. and Elsie M. Eggleston Denton at Cimarron. He married Wanda Nickell Cooley on May 31, 1947, at Dodge City.

He was raised in Dodge City and attended school there. From 1943 to 1946, he proudly served in the U.S. Navy as a seaman second class cook aboard the USS Enterprise. After his military service, he was employed by numerous auto dealerships as a bodyman and painter for 45 years. He was a lifetime member of the Howard Gotschall Post No. 1714 of the VFW, Dodge City.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Gerri Heckart, Olatha; two sisters, Carolyn Miller and Wilma Smith, both of Dodge City; three grandchildren; and five greatgrandchildren. He was preceded in death` by his parents; one daughter, Priscilla Jo Hubbs; two brothers, Clay and William Denton; and one sister, Donna Markus.

Graveside services were July 19, 2003 at Maple Grove Cemetery, Dodge City, with Gerald C. Rendel presiding. Military rites were conducted by Howard Gotschall Post No. 1714 of the VFW, Dodge City. Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City, was in charge of arrangements.
