Durst, Ruth Ailene

R. Ailene Durst of Emporia died Thursday Aug 12, 2004, at the Newman Regional Health. She was 78.

Ruth Ailene Overman was born to Leslie B. and Nancy R. Schneider Overman on Oct. 6, 1925, in Wichita. She married Harold E. Durst on Aug. 4, 1949, in Wichita. He died Aug. 26, 1986.

A resident of Emporia since 1963, she retired in 1987 as librarian at Lowther Middle School. Before that, she taught in Derby, Ness City, Olpe and Cottonwood Falls. She was a graduate of Wichita State University and received her master of library science degree from Emporia State University. She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, the PEO Sisterhood, Delta Kappa Gamma and the Emporia Retired Teachers Association.

Survivors include her daughter, Rebecca L. Twietmeyer of Cheney; her sister, Jane Schaefer of Wichita; and two grandchildren. Two brothers, William Garnett "Pete" overman and James Leslie Overman, died earlier.

The funeral was held Monday, Aug. 16, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church. The burial service was held at the Morrowville Cemetery. The Rev. Ken Kaufmann of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Cheney conducted both services. Contributions in her memory to the Emporia State University Foundation may be sent in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 175, Emporia, KS 66801.
