Eckert, Loyal Eugene
Loyal Eugene Eckert, 84, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004, at Pratt.
Loyal was born Jan. 7, 1920, in Hardtner to S.C. and Hattie Smith Eckert.
He grew up in Kiowa and graduated from Kiowa High School. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II in Europe.
He married Ruth Wilson-Fry on Jan. 10, 1957. He was construction foreman, carpenter and painter for 60 years. He owned and managed a liquor store for 20 years. He had resided in Leoti since 1972. He was a member of
the First Baptist Church of Leoti, VFW of Leoti, Disabled American Veterans of Wichita, Kiowa Cosmos Lodge #278 and the Median Shrine of Scott City.
He is survived by his wife Ruth of Ashland; a son, George of Leoti; three daughters, Cinda Medina of Pretty Prairie, Janna Eckert of Leoti, and Lanna Kreutzer of Leoti; three step-sons, Don Fry of Coventry, R.I., Lewis Fry of Woodbine, Ga. and Roy Fry of Cedar Point; 11 grand-children; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Carl
and Leon both of Kiowa; and one sister, Edith Boyle of Tracy, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two sisters, one nephew and one niece.
The funeral service was Jan. 17 at the Lanman Funeral Home Chapel in Kiowa. Burial followed in the Riverview Cemetery east of Kiowa.
