Evans, William Earl

William Earl "Steve" Evans, 89, Strong City died Feb. 4, 2004, in Newman Hospital, Emporia.

William Earl Evans, the son of William G. and Mary , Ann "Mae" Landsbury , Evans, was born March 4, 1914. He married Muriel Shumaker, she died Oct. 25, 1980. He married Juanita Odle, on July 10, 1981, at Marion, she survives.

Mr. Evans was a rural mail carrier at Strong City for 18 years before retiring in 1980. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Evans was a member of the Cottonwood Falls Country Club and the Rural Mail Carriers Association.

He is survived by a daughter, Carla Gibb, Charlotte, N.C.; step-daughter, Linda Miller, Verona, Mo.; four step- grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Cora and Ellen Marie; two brothers, Howard and George Evans; and step-father, Ernie E. "Bud" Bullock.

The graveside services were at the Miller Cemetery in Chase County, near Cottonwood Falls, Feb. 7. Mr. Tom Bell conducted the service. Memorials to the Golf Association at the Cottonwood Falls Country Club may be sent in care of Tom Bell, P.O. Box 411, Cottonwood Falls, KS 66845.
