Garr, William T "Bill"

William "Bill" Garr, 84, of Strong City, died Nov. 20, 2002, at Morris County Hospital in Council Grove. Funeral services were Nov. 22, 2002, at the First Baptist Church, Cottonwood Falls. Pastor Charles "Bob" Storm of Parkerville Baptist Church and Pastor Rick Smith of First Baptist Church, Cottonwood Falls, officiated. Interment was in the Strong City Cemetery.

William Thomas Garr, the son of Ermam Thomas and Martha Elinor McKinney Garr, was born Dec. 5, 1917, in rural Delavan. He and Charlene Storm were married Aug. 13, 1938, in the pastor's home at Council Grove.

Mr. Garr farmed and worked for Rural Electric Association. He was part of the crew who built the REA lines from south central Kansas through Chase, Marion and Morris counties. He worked for the Kansas Department of Transportation from September 1951 until his retirement in 1983. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Mr. Garr is survived by his wife, Charlene, of the home; two sons, Edward William Garr of Cottonwood Falls and Dallas Lee Garr of rural Emporia; three daughters, Carol Jean Fillmore of Strong City, Betsy Ann Heathman of Gardner and Patsy Sue Potter of Gardner; one sister, Dorothy Rohloff of Council Grove; 15 grandchil- dren; and 20 great-grandchil- dren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Lloyd Richard Garr and three sisters, Isabel Gaston, Mildred Ingmire and Charlotte Gaston. Memorial contributions to the First Baptist Church may be sent in care of the Brown- Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home, 201 Cherry, Cottonwood Falls, KS 66845.
