Gibb, Donald Ray

The funeral for Donald Ray Gibb, 92, a resident of the Holiday Resort care center was held April 9, 2002, in the First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Norton Ritter conducted the service. Burial was in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions to the First United Methodist Church can be sent to the Roberts-Blue-Barnett funeral Home.

Mr. Gibb died April 3, 2002, at Newman Regional Health. Mr. Gibb worked for Bailey Real Estate before he retired in 1979. He previously worked for the Sobke John Deere Farm Equipment Dealership after he moved to Emporia in the late 1960's. He began his working career in the late 1920's, when he moved from Elmdale to Eureka, where he was a salesman for and Allis-Chalmbers dealership. In 1944, he and his family moved to Council Grove and he managed the Sinclair Service Station.

In 1947, he returned to the Elmdale area to manage the Drummond Farm. He and his family then moved to a farm north of Emporia in 1953. while there, he served three years on the Americus School board. He then sold the farm and moved to Emporia.

Donald Ray Gibb, the son of John E and Margaret Maloney Gibb, was born Aug 30, 1909, on the Mulvane Ranch at Elmdale. He graduated in 1927 from Elmdale High School, where he played football and was captain of his team during his senior year. He attended Kansas State Normal School, now Emporia State University, for one year.

He married Betty Lou Rose on Sept 18, 1938, at Eureka. Mr. Gibb was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, a daughter, Gayla Rose Bazil of Emporia; a son, Gary John Gibb of Reno, Nev.; a sister, Mary Noe of Morristown, Tenn.; three grandchildren, David Thomas of Minden, Nev., and Amy Gibb and Bryant Gibb both of Fountain Valley, Calif., and two great-grandchildren. A daughter, Donna Gibb, and seven brothers and sisters died earlier.
