Chase County Obituaries

Mrs. Cornelia Giger passed away April 1st at Cottonwood Falls after
a lingering illness of a complication of diseases She spent the past
winter at Glendale, Arizona, but the
climate there failed to benefit her.
Loose, Cornelia
She was born at Stroudsburg, Monroe
County, Pa., Oct. 22, 1868. She was the daughter of John and Louise Loose, who moved to the west,
settling at Marine, Ill., when she was five months of age, where the father soon died, leaving the mother with three small children. After the mother's second marriage, the family moved on a farm north of Marine, Ill. where she grew to young woman
hood. There she attended the district
school. At the age of fourteen she was confirmed at the German Evangelical church, where she took her first communion.
On April 14, 1882, she was united in marriage to Harvey M. Giger at Litchfield, Ill, and settled on a farm near Alhambra, Ill., where they
resided for two years. At the end of that time they removed to a farm near Elmdale, Kansas where she
resided the remainder of her life.
Here she united with the Methodist Episcopal church, and in the years of her strength, was an active
worker both in church and Sunday School, a charter member of the Ladies' Aid, and assisted in other church activities.
She leaves to mourn her death, her husband, three sons, and one
daughter. The three sons are Leroy M. and Orville E. of Elmdale, and
Harold H. of Chicago. The daughter is Mrs. Elva L. Angle of Courtland, Kansas. She also leaves three sisters and two brothers. The sisters are Mrs. Elizabeth Voigh of Granite City, Ill., Miss Lottie Reinhart of St. Louis Mo., and Mrs. Hannah Giger of Highland, Ill. Beside these she leaves seven en grandchildren.
She was of a quiet nature, a loving
mother whose home was her world, end of whom it may be said the world is made better by her having lived in it. She will be greatly missed by all who will long cherish her memory.
Funeral services were conducted from the old home north of Elmdale at 2 o'clock, Tuesday, April l4. Rev. E. V. Allen, the Methodist pastor, officiating.
