Gordon, Max W

Max W. Gordon, 71, of Strong City, died unexpectedly on Sunday, April 30, 2006, at Newman Regional Health in Emporia.

Max Wayne Brown, the son of William Thomas and Maude Alice Wilson Brown, was born Jan. 16, 1935, at Strong City. He was adopted by Ray K. and Marian Wilson Gordon and reared in Strong City. He graduated from Strong City Rural High School.

He served in the United States Navy for 22 years before retiring in 1979, with the rank of Chief Petty Officer (E-7).

He and Judith "Judy" Ann Green married on June 17, 1960, at Council Grove. She survives. He was baptized in the Strong City Methodist Church. He was a member of the Russell Blackburn Post 123 American Legion (Post Adjutant), Low Income Housing Board, Honorary Board Member of the Flint Hills Rodeo Association and past Secretary-Treasurer, past school board member, Secretary Treasurer of the Strong City Alumni and Treasurer of the Chase County Seven High Schools Association.

He is also survived by two brothers, Willard Brown of Elmdale and Charles Brown of Carson City, Nev.; and a sister, JoAnn Brammell of Emporia.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia Marie Gordon; a son, Darryl Lee Gordon; his parents; five brothers; and a sister. The graveside service was Wednesday, May 3, at the Strong City Cemetery, with Pastor David Parks. Military honors were per-formed by a Fort Riley Honor Detail.
