Graham, John Thomas "Tom"

John Thomas Graham, 78, of Cottonwood Falls Had Been in Failing Health for Two Months. Formerly Resided at Cedar Point and Clements.

Funeral services for John T. Graham of Cottonwood Falls a former treasurer of Chase County, who passed away in the Newman Memorial Hospital in Emporia, Saturday, July 26th were held in the Brown Funeral Home in Cottonwood Falls, Monday afternoon, July 28, at 2:30 o'clock. The Rev. E.M. McGhee of the Presbyterian church officiated. Robert Way sang accompanied by Miss Margaret Simmons. The pall bearers were H.L. Grimwood, F. L. Grimwood, Lee Byram and W.T. Brown. Interment was made in the Cedar Point cemetery.

John Thomas Graham, son of Mary Duffield and W.L. Graham was born January 13, 1874 at Centerview, Mo. He departed this life on July 26, 1952 at the Newman Memorial hospital in Emporia, Kansas at the age of 78 years, 6 months and 13 days. He came with his parents to Cottonwood Falls and later moved to Cedar Point.

He was united in marriage to Mamie Kyle on June 20th, 1897. To this union two children were born, Virgie, Mrs. Meryl Baker of Holyrood, Kansas and Lee Graham of Clements, Kansas. His wife preceded him in death on March 17, 1905. In 1909 he was married to Elsie Byram of Cedar Point, Kansas and to this union were born Melvin, who died in infancy, Neil of Cottonwood Falls, Charles of Florence, Mrs. Gladys Danby of Wichita, Mrs. Allene Brown of Strong City and Mrs. Dorothy Hatcher of Florence.

As a young man he joined the Methodist church in Cedar Point. He later transferred his membership to the Presbyterian chuch in Clements where he lived for twenty-seven years. He moved to Cottonwood Falls in 1937, where he served as county treasurer for four years.

Tom, as he was called by all of his many friends, was a kind and loving father, putting his home and children first in his life. He was a member of the Modern Woodman Lodge of Clements.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, seven children, 14 grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Kate Soper of Columbus, Kansas and Mrs. Martha Green of Claremore, Oklahoma, other relatives and a host of friends.
