Grant, Ulysses Rev

The Rev. Ulysses Grant "U.S." or "general" Grant, 90, of Lenexa died Sept 20, 2001, at the Lakeview Village Retirement Community in Lenexa.

Survivors in Chase County include a grandson, Aaron Grant of Cottonwood Falls. The Rev. Mr. Grant, who was ordained in 1935, was a minister with the Assemblies of God. His ministry included extensive travel in evangelism to 26 countries of the world. In his early ministry, he founded eight churches in Texas, North Dakota and Wisconsin. He was pastor for six years in Bartlesville, Okla., and for 31 years at the First Assembly of God in Kansas City, Kansas.

During this time, he was the assistant superintendent for the Kansas District, general presbyter for the General Council and a member of the Foreign Missions Board. He was the first president of the Evangelical Ministers Fellowship of Greater Kansas City and an honorary member of the Kansas District Presbytery Board. He helped found the Highlands Child Placement Service, an adoption agency of the Assemblies of God and was a member of the executive board.

He also was a founder of Christian Learning, a nonprofit organization that helps with scholarship in Christian schools, missions at home and abroad and small churches. He was a founder of Lakeview Village a retirement complex in Lenexa, and was president of the board of directors for 15 years.

In 1979, he received an honorary doctor of divity degree from North Central Bible College in Minneapolis, Minn., where he often was a guest lecturer.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, in the Overland Park Assembly of God Church. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends can call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Church. Memorial contributions can be sent to Highlands Child Placement Services, P O Box 300198, Kansas City, Mo. 64130. The Highland Park Funeral Home of Kansas City Kansas is in charge of arrangements.
