Grimwood, Frank L

Frank L. Grimwood, 79, of Cottonwood Falls, who was a retired banker and a resident of Chase County almost his entire life died Tuesday morning June 12, in the Newman Memorial Hospital, Emporia. He had been hospitalized since Friday after suffering an apparent heart attack at his home.

Well known in a wide area, Mr. Grimwood first started in the banking business in 1923 and continued until retirement in 1969. He served as a cashier of the Saffordville State Bank until 1945 when it merged with the Exchange National Bank in Cottonwood Falls. Mr. Grimwood was cashier of the local bank and after retirement served as vice president of the firm while remaining a director.

His memberships included Jomaria Chapter 378, Order of the Eastern Star, and Lodge 395, A.F. and A.M., both at Saffordville; the United Methodist Church, Twin Cities Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce and the Country Club, all in Cottonwood Falls.

Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Thursday in the United Methodist Church, Cottonwood Falls, with the Rev. Lee Wiersma, the church pastor, officiating. Masonic graveside services will be conducted by the Saffordville Masonic Lodge in Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Emporia. A memorial has been established to the United Methodist Church. The Croy Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born Nov. 3, 1899, in Norma, Oklahoma, the son of William H. and Mary V. Graham Grimwood, he came to Chase County at an early age, growing up at Cedar point. He as married to Alpha Jane Smith on June 2, 1923, in Emporia. They had lived at Saffordville before moving here in 1945.

Surviving him are his wife, of the home; one daughter, Mrs. L. J. (Marie) Freeman, Route 2, Emporia; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. William C. Grimwood, Emporia, one granddaughter, Mrs. J.J. Prosser, Pratt; three grandsons, Charles, Jay and Kent Grimwood, Emporia; three great grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Ray (Louise) Crofoot, Newton. He was preceded in death by a son, William C. Grimwood, and two brothers, Graham and Thomas Grimwood.
