Gutierrez, Antonio A

Antonio A Gutierrez, 70, of Topeka, died Dec 28, 2001, at his home.

He was born on Oct 25, 1931 in Topeka, the son of Antonio A and Christina (Alfaro) Gutierrez. Mr Gutierrez worked as a letter carrier for 32 years and retired in 1990.

Mr. Gutierrez was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers Branch 10, he was the Postmaster at the Kansas Legislative Post Office a charter member of the Topeka Jazz Workshop, and a charter member of the Oakland Optimist Club. He volunteered at St. Francis hospital and the Topeka Shawnee County Public Library. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.

He was married to Pauline Palacio on Feb 27, 1960 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Topeka. She survives.

Other survivors include four daughters, Lisa Houser of Prairie Village, Lori Wickliffe of Lawrence, Lydia Schmidt of Topeka and Deborah Hunter of Mayetta; two sons, Anthony Gutierrez of Topeka and Ronald Gutierrez of Washington, D C.; two sisters, Mary Antunez of Lawrence and Christina Hernandez of Topeka; and 13 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Teresa Valderas and a son, Vincent Gutierrez. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial was in Mount Calvary Cemetery with military honors provided by the Philip Billard Post #1650 of the VFW.

Memorial contributions may be given to the American Lung Association 4300 Drury Lane, Topeka, or to Sacred Heart Catholic Church 333 N E Freeman, Topeka, 66616. Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
