Hawkins, Celia Crawford CLEMENTS NATIVE IS TAKEN IN DEATH
Mrs. Claude Hawkins, 78, Had Been
Postmaster at Cements for 22 Years.
Mrs. Claude W. Hawkins, former Clements postmaster for 22 years, and a life long resident of the Clements community, died Thursday in an Emporia rest home. She had been in failing health for some time.
Funeral services were held at two o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Brown Funeral Home. Mrs. Joseph Sheen, Reader at the First Church of Christ Scientists, Emporia, officiated. Mrs. Wayne Rogler sang, accompanied by Mrs. Charles Ireland. Pallbearers were Bert Dawson, Lee Graham, Howard Duehn, Ed Zickefoose, Frank I Harshman and Willard Park. Burial was in the Clements cemetery. Members of the Unity chapter No. 72, O.E.S., Florence, attended the rites in a group.
Celia Crawford, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph L. Crawford, was born July 17, 1882, at Clements, and died September 1, 1960. She was married to Claude W. Hawkins, July 2, 1902 at Clements where they made their home. Mr. Hawkins died April 19, 1954.
Surviving her are one son, Frank Hawkins, Bel Air, Maryland; one grandson, three great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Hawkins was a member of the National League of Postmasters Retired and Unity Chapter No. 72 of the Eastern Star. She retired as postmaster at Clements in 1952. For many years she had served as pianist at the Presbyterian church in her home community.

Note: Celia Crawford Hawkins' mother was Mary Elizabeth Watson Crawford (second wife of Joseph L. Crawford). Celia and Claude Hawkins had 2 sons, Frank and one son who died in infancy and is buried in Clements cemetery.
