Hawkins, John Henry GRAVESIDE SERVICES FOR J. H. HAWKINS AT CLEMENTS
Graveside services for John Henry Hawkins, 93, who passed away at his home in Atwood, Okla., Saturday, January 23, 1954 were held this Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock at the Clements cemetery. The Rev. Clarence Harder of the Cottonwood Falls Methodist Church, was in charge.
John Henry Hawkins was born on a farm near Clements in the fall of 1860 and passed away January 23, 1954. Uncle Henry to all his nieces and nephews, was the last member of the pioneer family of two sisters, Frances and Rebecca Jane, and three brothers, Riley, Richard and Lafayette.
He was a member of the IOOF Lodge of Chandler, Oklahoma, for over 50 years. A carpenter by trade, Mr. Hawkins enjoyed reading and working in his garden in his later years.
He was never married so leaves his nieces, nephews and a great group of friends to mourn his passing. He was buried in the Clements cemetery where one sister and two brothers now rest.

Note: John Henry Hawkins is the son of Chase Co. pioneers, John Wesley Hawkins & wife, Rebecca Ann (Best) Hawkins who came to Clements area of Chase Co., KS in 1857. His brothers and sisters are William Riley Hawkins, Isaac Richard Hawkins, Susan Frances (Hawkins) Patton, Rebecca Jane Hawkins, & Prince Lafayette Hawkins. His father served in the KS Cavalry during the Civil War and died during that war when John Henry was only 3 yrs of age, but the Hawkins family remained in Chase Co.
