Hawkins, Mary Ann

FUNERAL SERVICES FOR MRS. MARY ANN HAWKINS

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Ann Hawkins, long a resident of the Elmdale neighborhood, who died in St. Mary's Hospital in Emporia, Wednesday, October 26th, were held in the Christian Church in Elmdale, Saturday, October 29, 1949 at two o'clock. The Rev. Wayne Kieffer officiated. A quartette, Mrs. James Way, Mr. and Mrs. Will Schneider and Duncan MacAlpine sang accompanied by Mrs. Charles Herrick at the piano. The pall bearers were Tom Ballew, Chris Crawford, D. L. Crawford, Les Talkington, Howard Duehn and Frank Duehn. Interment was made in the Clements cemetery.

Mary Ann Hawkins, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Patton, was born November 13, 1855, in Indiana and passed away October 26, 1949 at the St. Mary's Hospital. In 1868 she came to Kansas and Nov. 10, 1875 married I. R. Hawkins at Marion, Kansas. They were the parents of seven children. Mr. Hawkins and three children, Stella, Roy and Ralph preceded her in death, also 7 sisters and 4 brothers.

She is survived by one daughter, Alta White of Lakeland, Florida, three sons, Alfred Hawkins of Cottonwood Falls, Fred Hawkins of Garnett, Kansas and Sidney Hawkins of Fairfax, Okla., 10 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Mrs. Hawkins has been a member of the Christian Church since Nov. 18, 1915.

Note: Mary Ann (Patton) Hawkins is the daughter of John Patton & wife, Mary Ann (Ring) Patton, who brought their family to Chase Co., KS in 1868, and their home farm was just south of the Clements stone bridge. Her sisters were Margaret Elizabeth (Patton) Payne, Malinda Jane (Patton) Magill, Harriet Ellen (Patton) Hudson, Sarah Mabelle Patton (d. young), Emma Rose (Patton) Thompson, Ida S. (Patton) Kent Moman, and her brothers were William H. Patton (d. young), John Thomas Patton, Nelson Monroe Patton, and Joseph Charles Patton (d. young).
