Hawkins, Mary Amy Green

Mrs. Fred Hawkins is Taken in Death

Had Been Chase County Resident More than 60 Years. Rites held here, Burial at Clements.

Mrs. Fred Hawkins, 82, a resident of Chase County for greater part of her life, died at her home in Cottonwood Falls, Friday, following an extended illness.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Brown-Bennett Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Robert Glezentanner, pastor of the Presbyterian Church. Elmore Stout sang, accompanied by Mrs. Charles L. Ireland. Pallbearers were Wayne Pracht, Keith Hunt, Lee Graham, T. C. Crawford, Harold Miller and Paul Koegeboehn. Burial was in the Clements Cemetery.

Mary Amy Hawkins was born February 1, 1883, in the Wonsevu community, the daughter of Elias and Lucy M. Crawford Green. She was married to Fred Hawkins on March 28, 1906, in Clements. They lived in the Clements and Elk communities until 1940 when they moved to Garnett where they resided until 1960 when they came here to make their home. Mrs. Hawkins was a member of the Presbyterian Church at Clements.

Surviving her are her husband, of the home, one son, Richard E. Hawkins, Garnett; one daughter, Mrs. George T. (Bertha) Dawson, Elmdale; one brother, David Green, El Centro, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Mary Dale Setter, Joyce Ann Harkert, Sylvia Poore, Norman B. Dawson, Harold Dawson, Karin Link and Helen Kloxin; 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and two brothers.
